Local and Sweet
As I walked through Piazza Mazzini, the main piazza in the charming village of Isnello (in the Madonie Mountains), one day last week, it was close to lunch time and a corner fruit shop was still open. And just above the box of tiny pears was a case of ‘albicocca Isnello’ - apricots from Isnello.
The young shopkeeper bagged a kilogram of the Isnello apricots and I washed a ripe one under the small tap in the piazza's fountain. I pulled the apricot apart and sat on a bench beneath the belltower of Isnello’s mother church .
It was a sweet, delicious apricot from the Madonie.
P.S. This was my first visit to Isnello and I will write more about this lovely, small mountain town in a later blog.
Salve,
Suzanne
