Trapani: quiet, summer moments

Posted by Suzanne on 19 Aug 2016

granita, evening rosary, sunsets and summer breezes

This summer, wandering Trapani's historic centre:

Light filled, hot days; cool evening breezes; a room by the sea; the call of morning seagulls; mulberry granita with brioche; a beautiful painting attributed to van Dyke in the Church of San Lorenzo; a dosing poodle in a near empty pew of San Lorenzo as a small group of women recited the evening rosary; and perfumed rose petals scattered on the street outside; a quiet walk along La Mura della Tramontana at sunset.

cobalt skies, grilled octupus, a fisherman and a bookshop

Blue doors and windows; a fisherman in a black wetsuit cleaning freshly caught bait by La Mura; small colourful boats on the bluest water; a visit to the post office, a 1927 architectural gem; walking streets lined with centuries old palazzi; cobalt blue evening skies; a small Liberty style bookshop on via Vittorio Emmanuele, well stocked; strolling along the port front and under large sub- tropical fig trees; a lunch of grilled octopus; swimmers enjoying the blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

a few snapshots:
